The Biologicals Boom Has a New Power Couple

Valent BioSciences has been named the sole US commercialisation partner for Seipasa's Sweetsei biostimulant, in a deal announced in November 2025 that gives American specialty crop growers access to a product already sold across Latin America, Europe and Africa.

Sweetsei works by targeting metabolic processes within the plant to improve development and yield quality. Both companies cited its international track record as central to their confidence in the US launch.

For Seipasa, the agreement marks a significant step in its expansion strategy, with the United States identified as a priority market. Pedro Peleato, chief executive of Seipasa, described the US as central to the company's global ambitions, pointing to the product's proven overseas performance as a foundation for grower confidence.

Valent BioSciences has been building steadily in the biologicals segment for several years. It established a dedicated biostimulant unit in 2022, then acquired FBSciences in early 2023, adding the Transit product line to its portfolio. Sweetsei extends that offering into crop quality applications for high-value specialty segments.

Salman Mir, president and chief executive of Valent BioSciences, highlighted the scientific alignment between the two organisations as a key driver of the collaboration, noting that Seipasa's approach complements its own research standards.

The deal arrives as the US biologicals sector enters a period of sustained growth. Demand for crop inputs that reduce chemical residues and support sustainable farm management is widening the market for biostimulants well beyond early adopters.

Whether Sweetsei can replicate its international performance in the more fragmented and regulatory-intensive US market remains to be seen. Specialty crop growers operate under varied state-level conditions, and adoption rates for newer biological inputs have historically varied by region and crop type. The partnership's commercial results will test whether distribution scale alone is sufficient to convert grower interest into consistent uptake.
